Nobody buys a rice cooker for one perfect batch. You buy it for the 300th Tuesday, when you rinse a cup of jasmine, press a button and walk away. That’s why the two numbers that matter most here aren’t on the box: how much rice it really makes, and how long it keeps working.

How we chose

We started from Amazon’s Rice Cookers best-seller list on October 28, 2026 and compared real capacity, wattage, pot material and programs. For each model we worked out what share of owners’ main topics are negative. We also read Consumer Reports’ 2022 rice cooker roundup and Today.com’s hands-on ranking for context on basic versus premium machines.

The picks in detail

Aroma ARC-914SBD. It’s the sensible family pick. Four rice-cups uncooked makes 8 cups cooked, which is enough for four people with a container of leftovers for tomorrow’s fried rice. There’s a brown rice setting, a Flash Rice shortcut and a tray for steaming vegetables above the rice. The catch is longevity: 1,105 of 1,386 reliability comments say it quit, often after months. Keep the receipt.

Zojirushi NHS-06. It’s the purist’s pick. One switch. A glass lid. Nothing else. Consumer Reports rated its rice Excellent and found it cooked in about half the time of most rivals. CR also docked it for lacking a real keep-warm mode, and owners notice: 140 of 231 warm-setting comments are negative.

Dash Mini. Made for a dorm desk or a single cook. One cup in, two out. It’s 6.6 by 8.3 inches, so it fits beside a kettle. 590 of 1,950 size comments call it too small, which mostly tells you who shouldn’t buy it.

Aroma ARC-363NG. Cheap and cheerful. Owners often say rice is ready in 20 to 30 minutes, and the ceramic pot cleans easily. Durability is the weak point, at 72% negative across 330 mentions. The listing calls the pot hand-wash, yet plenty of owners say it survives the dishwasher.

Aroma Select Stainless. For cooks who’d rather not eat off any coating at all, whatever the label says about PFAS. The pot is plain 304 stainless and goes in the dishwasher. You pay in scrubbing: 62% of comments about rice left in the pot are complaints. A soak fixes most of it.

COMFEE’ 6-Program. The most flexible small cooker here. White, brown, quinoa, oatmeal, steam and slow cook, all in a 2-quart pot. Cook time divides owners almost evenly, with 48 of 93 calling it slow.

The ones we left out

The Black+Decker RC506 is Amazon’s #1 rice cooker, but only 40 of 259 capacity comments are positive, and 348 of 421 durability comments describe early failure. We compare it with the Aroma ARC-363NG in a separate head-to-head. The Hamilton Beach 37518 has a nice hinged lid, but 247 of 322 reliability mentions are negative.

Buying advice

Size by uncooked cups. Double the raw capacity for cooked rice, then assume about one cooked cup per adult.

Rinse first. It washes off the loose surface starch that makes rice gummy and is usually the reason a small cooker foams over the rim and spits starchy water across the counter.

Expect a lifespan, not a lifetime. Almost every budget cooker here has a durability topic that’s majority-negative. A 1- or 2-year warranty is worth checking.

FAQ

How much rice does a '6-cup' rice cooker make?

Usually 6 cups cooked from 3 cups uncooked, and the cups are not US cups. Zojirushi's listing says its cup holds 6 ounces, about 3/4 of a US cup, and Black+Decker includes a 3/4-cup measure too. Measure with the cup in the box or you'll get soupy rice.

Is a fuzzy logic rice cooker worth it?

If you cook brown rice, sushi rice or porridge often, possibly. If you mostly make white rice, a basic cooker does fine: Consumer Reports found every model in its 2022 test made Very Good or Excellent white rice. Fancier models are also slower. Today.com timed a Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH at about 60 minutes for white rice.

Why does my rice burn on the bottom?

Too little water for the rice type, skipping the rinse, or leaving it on keep-warm for hours. Rinse until the water runs mostly clear, use the pot's own water lines, and don't leave rice on warm much past an hour or two.

Can a rice cooker cook other things?

Most handle oatmeal, quinoa and steamed vegetables in the tray. Digital models like the COMFEE' add slow cook. One-switch models just heat until the water's gone, so stick to grains in those.

How we put this together

We compared manufacturer specs and Amazon listing details, read the patterns in Amazon owner reviews (we refresh this snapshot regularly), and scored each product with our published rubric. We have not tested these units hands-on. When we do, the page will say so. Prices change constantly, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one.
