Every robot vacuum on Amazon’s best-seller list claims thousands of pascals of suction. Ignore that number. What decides whether a robot cleans your house or just tours it is navigation, the dock, and whether it’s still alive in month ten.

How we chose

We started from Amazon’s Robotic Vacuums best-seller list on October 28, 2026, and read through owner feedback for 10 models. We weighed the topics owners raise most, especially the share of reliability and getting-stuck mentions that are negative. Then we checked independent lab results from Vacuum Wars, TechGearLab, PCWorld and a detailed Qrevo S Pro review on Basic Tutorials.

The three things that matter

Navigation. LiDAR robots (both Roborocks, Dreame, Shark, Roomba) spin a laser to build a map you can edit. Gyro bots like the Tikom clean in rows but forget the room after each run. Random bots like the ILIFE V2 bounce until the battery quits.

The dock. A self-empty base means you deal with dust every month or two instead of every run. A full dock also washes and dries mop pads.

Hair. Brush design beats suction claims here. Vacuum Wars measured the Roomba 105 Vac collecting just 29% of flattened pet hair from carpet, with 79% of long strands wrapping its brush.

The picks

Roborock Qrevo S Pro (best overall). You get LiDAR, a 2.7 L bagged base, 167°F mop washing and 113°F drying, and 180 minutes of claimed runtime. Basic Tutorials found it moved confidently without getting stuck, but flat cables slipped past its structured-light sensor and the mops don’t reach into edges. Pet hair is its weak topic: only 52% of 339 mentions are positive.

Roborock Qrevo CurvX (low furniture, long hair). At 3.14 inches with the tower retracted, it gets under sofas the S Pro can’t. Vacuum Wars recorded zero hair tangling and 92% of embedded sand pulled from carpet, while TechGearLab saw 88% of obstacles avoided. TechGearLab also had to cut fur off its brushroll, so results vary. The worry is 215 negative reliability mentions out of 287.

Dreame D20 Air Plus (budget self-empty). PCWorld liked its straight-line LiDAR runs and app, but called it noisier than expected and the mop basic: one pad that doesn’t spin or lift. Turn mopping off on rugs.

Shark Navigator AV2120 (no dock, good on carpet). Owners praise its pickup, but 68% of getting-stuck comments are complaints. Clear cords and loose mats first.

Tikom G8000 Max (cheap vacuum-mop). Owners call it quiet and effective on dust, 92% positive. Expect to empty it often.

ILIFE V2 (no app). Vacuum Wars called it the lowest-performing robot in its whole dataset, and it removed only 47% of embedded sand from carpet. On bare floors in a studio, it’s a fair deal.

Robot Navigation Self-empty Mops Reliability negative
Qrevo S Pro LiDAR Yes Spinning, washed Not a top topic
Qrevo CurvX LiDAR + camera Yes Spinning, hot wash 75%
D20 Air Plus LiDAR Yes Drag pad 80%
Shark AV2120 Spot LiDAR No No 80%
Tikom G8000 Max Gyro No Drag pad 59%
ILIFE V2 Random No No 64%

Who should skip what

Skip the Roomba 105 Vac for now. It’s #4 on the list, but 84% of its 774 battery mentions are negative, many about it failing to return to the dock. Skip any gyro or random bot if your home has more than two or three rooms. And if a long-haired dog lives with you, budget for a Roborock rather than hoping a cheap bot keeps up.

FAQ

Is LiDAR worth it on a robot vacuum?

For most homes, yes. A LiDAR robot builds a saved map, so you can send it to one room, block off a play area and trust it to finish. Random and gyro bots work in one or two open rooms but repeat and miss spots in bigger layouts.

Do self-emptying docks really last 60 to 120 days?

Those are the brands' claims for an average home. With a shedding dog or daily runs, expect to swap the bag sooner. Budget docks also keep their own small bin in the robot, which can still clog with long hair.

Are robot mops any good?

Spinning mops that the dock washes, like the Roborock pair here, handle daily footprints and spills. A drag pad like the Dreame D20 Air Plus's only freshens floors. None of them replace scrubbing dried stains.

Is it safe to buy a Roomba after iRobot's bankruptcy?

iRobot filed for Chapter 11 in December 2025 under a deal for its manufacturer, Picea, to take over, and said it expected no disruption to the app or support. Roombas still work, but long-term app support now depends on the new owner.

How we put this together

We compared manufacturer specs and Amazon listing details, read the patterns in Amazon owner reviews (we refresh this snapshot regularly), and scored each product with our published rubric. We have not tested these units hands-on. When we do, the page will say so. Prices change constantly, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one.
