Coway Airmega Mighty2 vs Winix 5510: Which Air Purifier Should You Buy?
Short answer: The Winix 5510, for most homes. Owners rate its noise and odor control higher, and it has an app. Choose the Coway Mighty2 if you want the fastest cleaning at a low fan speed and a 3-year warranty.

Winix 5510
4.6★ · 32,547 ratings
- Cooking smells, smoke or pets are the main problem
- You want app control and schedules from your phone
- You want the larger owner base: 32,547 ratings at 4.6★
On paper these two are almost the same machine. The Coway lists a smoke CADR of 240 and the Winix 253, so both suit a living room of roughly 370 sq ft. They’ve been rivals since the original Coway AP-1512HH and Winix 5500-2. The question is less “which cleans more” and more which one you’ll keep running.

The Winix CADR comes from TechGearLab’s listing; the Coway numbers are from its Amazon page.
The deciding difference
Here’s the awkward part. Labs favor the Coway. Owners favor the Winix.
HouseFresh cleared its 728 cubic-foot test room with the Mighty2 in 23 minutes on turbo and 38 minutes on speed 2. It said the Coway beat both the Winix 5510 and 5520 and was quieter at similar performance. That middle speed matters most, since it’s the one you’d actually leave on all day.
Amazon owners tell a different story about noise. 28% of the Coway’s noise mentions are negative, against 20% for the Winix. Part of the gap may simply be expectations, because Coway advertises 19 dB on the box while HouseFresh measured 35.9 dBA in sleep mode from 3 feet away, which is a soft whisper of airflow rather than silence. Quiet, yes. Not silent.
Odor is different. TechGearLab credited its pelleted carbon filter, which handled lingering smells better than thin carbon sheets. Owners agree: 76% of odor mentions are positive, versus 64% for the Coway. A chunk of the Coway’s complaints describe a chemical smell from the filter itself.
Where else they differ
Smarts. The Winix has an app with remote control. TechGearLab found its app readings didn’t always match the display, and it has no way to turn off the lights. The Coway has no app. Its Smart mode drops into sleep when the room goes dark, and HouseFresh suggested running it on speed 2 instead.
Noise on high. TechGearLab measured the Winix at 28.1 dB on low and 53.7 dB on high, and HouseFresh measured the Coway at 56.9 dBA on turbo, but those are different labs using different rooms and microphones, so treat the two as roughly equal. Both are loud flat out.
Filters. HouseFresh notes the Coway’s HEPA and carbon are one bonded filter, so you replace the whole thing when the carbon wears out first. Both have a washable pre-filter, and the Winix keeps its carbon and HEPA as separate layers.
What owners say
Both have deep owner pools, around 30,000 ratings each. Coway owners are happiest about build quality (93% of 2,668 mentions) and allergy relief (90%). Winix owners point to cleaning performance, at 92% positive across 3,181 mentions. Its weakest topic is sleep mode, where 28% of 564 mentions are unhappy.
Our call: the Winix 5510 for kitchens, pets and smokers’ homes. Pick the Coway Mighty2 if you care most about quiet, fast cleaning on a middle speed and like the longer warranty.

FAQ
Is the Coway Mighty2 better than the original AP-1512HH?
HouseFresh's tests say yes. The Mighty2 cleared PM1 particles faster than the original Mighty in the same room, and its laser sensor reads PM1, PM2.5 and PM10.
Should I turn on the Winix PlasmaWave?
It's optional, and you can leave it off without losing the HEPA and carbon filtration. TechGearLab notes its certification lists 0.22 ppb of ozone, and its reviewers kept it switched off.
How big a room can each one handle?
Both sit near 250 CFM of smoke CADR, which suits about 360 to 380 sq ft by AHAM's two-thirds rule. The 1,800 sq ft claims assume one air change per hour.
Which is cheaper to run?
Neither is cheap. HouseFresh called the Mighty2 the most expensive mid-size purifier it tested to buy and run in year one. TechGearLab put the Winix 5510's running cost slightly above average.

How we put this together
We compared manufacturer specs and Amazon listing details, read the patterns in Amazon owner reviews (we refresh this snapshot regularly), and scored each product with our published rubric. We have not tested these units hands-on. When we do, the page will say so. Prices change constantly, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one.
