Soundcore P20i vs P30i: Is Noise Cancelling Worth the Step Up?

Short answer: Get the P30i. Noise cancelling, multipoint and two extra mics are worth the small step up; buy the P20i only if you want the cheapest decent Anker pair and never take calls outside.

Picture a Monday commute. Bus engine, someone’s phone call two seats up, your podcast buried underneath it all. That’s the whole question in one scene. The Soundcore P20i and P30i look like siblings and sound alike, but only one of them can do anything about that bus.

The deciding difference

It’s ANC. The P20i blocks sound only with its tips, and owners notice: 43% of its 1,114 noise-cancelling mentions are negative. The P30i scores 69% positive on the same topic across 2,260 mentions. That isn’t a perfect score, but it’s a real improvement.

The reviewer at Scarbir bought and reviewed both pairs. On the P30i, the adaptive noise cancelling handled continuous sounds such as electronic hum and keyboard typing reasonably well, while conversations and announcements still came through clearly. The reviewer measured about 7 hours per charge with ANC running. That’s a little better than Anker’s figure of 6.

Where else they differ

Calls. The P30i has four mics to the P20i’s two. Scarbir rated calls 3 out of 5 on the P30i and 2 out of 5 on the P20i, noting low voice volume on the cheaper pair. TechGearLab’s lab put the P20i at 4.6 out of 10 for calls. Neither pair is good in wind.

Sound. Both are bass-forward and a little dark out of the box. Scarbir suggests the Treble Booster preset in the Soundcore app for each. Owners rate them about equally, at 86% positive for sound on both.

The case. The P30i case has a second flap that turns it into a phone stand. It’s a small thing. It’s also the feature reviewers mention most often, because propping a phone upright on an airplane tray table or office desk is genuinely convenient.

Small listing quirk. Amazon’s P30i listing says Bluetooth 5.4 in one place and just “5” in its spec table; Scarbir’s review lists 5.3. It won’t change how they work day to day.

What owners say

Both share the same weakness, which is Bluetooth connection stability. 41% of P20i connectivity mentions are negative, and 43% for the P30i. Fit is close too, at 68% and 71% positive.

The P20i has a bigger durability problem on paper, since 53% of its 1,248 durability mentions are complaints. The P30i’s reliability topic is 31% negative, although Amazon groups those comments under a different heading, so the comparison is approximate.

Our pick

The P30i. For a small step up you get working noise cancelling, multipoint, better calls and a 15-hour bigger battery reserve in the case. The P20i still makes sense as a cheap pair for home or the gym. For more options, see our best wireless earbuds guide.

How we put this together

We compared manufacturer specs and Amazon listing details, read the patterns in Amazon owner reviews (we refresh this snapshot regularly), and scored each product with our published rubric. We have not tested these units hands-on. When we do, the page will say so. Prices change constantly, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one.
